Micky Hazard Chicken Jalfrezi
For a first time blogger it was difficult to decide what to actually write about. I first thought about a blog on cooking, I'm not a chef but it was still an area I still wanted to cover.
I have a lot of followers that are very passionate about Spurs who I follow too and one day as I was doing my obsessive tweeting I had a reply from a former Spurs player who ironically happened to be 'Micky Hazard' who answered my question "What is your favourite dish or type of food??" and his response was "Indian food, however he's only started eating it since he turned 35". He says he likes it spicy but not slap in the face hot! I've decided to do a quick blog on a classic Chicken Jalfrezi which in my opinion isn't too spicy but a bloody good one and a few facts to pay tribute to his playing career also.
So if you want to try it out here's what to do....
Prep 10 minutes
Cooking Time 30 minutes
2 tsp Groundnut Oil
2 tsp Garam Masala
2 tsp Ground Cumin or pounded toasted cumin seeds
2 tsp Yellow mustard seeds
1 tsp Ground Turmeric
1 large onion sliced or diced
Inch Ginger
3 Garlic cloves
1 red pepper
1 green pepper
2 Hot Green Chillis (Birds Eye or Jalapenos)
Approx 675g diced Chicken breast or diced boneless chicken thighs
400g Tin Chopped Tomatoes
1 tsp Tomatoe Puree
Coriander
1. Chop your onions, ginger, garlic and slowly fry in a large pot or wok.
2. Add the spices and fry till they turn fragant. Add a drop of water if your worried it will burn.
3. Add Tomatoe Puree (fry off for a minute)
4. Slice the pepper and fry till coated in the spice mix.
5. Add the chicken breasts.
6. Throw in the tin of Tomatoes and season with salt and pepper.
7. Bring to the boil and simmer away for 30 minutes till chicken is cooked and the sauce is at desired consistency.
Add what you want with it, found in the past when cold adding to wraps makes a good snack. This keeps for 3 to 5 days nicely or freeze for 1-3 months. Obviously make sure it's piping hot when reheated.
Hope you try this if not hope oh well....
Anyway here is a few facts about Micky Hazard
Micky Hazard, sometimes spelled Mickey was born 5 February 1960 he is an English former professional footballer, best remembered for his time at Tottenham Hotspur. He grew up in Sunderland, Hazard began playing football with his friends and later joining his local school team. During one of these matches, he was spotted by a scout from London based club Tottenham Hotspur but was too young to be offered a trial.
He was initially invited to train with Spurs when aged 14 and continued to have week long sessions with the club until, aged 16, he moved to London to join the youth squad as an apprentice.
Liable to bouts of homesickness, Hazard ran home six times during the next two years until finally settling at the club. Hazard signed a professional contract with Spurs and made his League debut in a 3-0 victory versus Everton on 19 April 1980 aged 20.
He was a member of the team that won the 1982 FA Cup and UEFA Cup in 1984, where his crosses of the ball led to goals in both legs of the final against Anderlecht.
Anyway he went on to play for some other teams but that isn't important!
Hope you've found my blog interesting and hopefully I'll get a chance to write another one day. Till then....#COYS!
